Ways & Reasons:
Being a nature lover, I am discouraged by pollution and mankind’s greed for more and more stuff, especially plastic stuff that has added to the present climate change, cancers and environmental problems all over the world. My recent, papier mache sculptural work has all been made over armatures constructed of recycled polystyrene packaging. Keeping polystyrene out of the landfills has been a motivating concern. The great varieties of packaging materials and their designed characteristics for light weight and sturdiness for shipping have become my muse. They can be cut, broken and carved easily. Light weight, reliefs can be mounted on the wall with minimal effort and hardware. Attached to each other in unpredictable ways, I am able to create pieces of surprising forms and size that reflect my sense of humor and inventiveness with found objects.
